MOD to cut RAF trainee pilots

One in four of the Royal Air Force’s trainee pilots are to be fired in defense cuts according to a report in the Daily Mirror. Many of the student pilots are only a few hours from becoming fully fledged pilots. According to the report of the 100 students to be sacked include up to 20 fast jet pilots, 50 transport aircraft and 30 helicopter pilots.
According to the Daily Mirror article trainees were willing to trade pay cuts for the chance to complete qualification. The Ministry of Defence did say they would be reducing the RAF by 5000 personnel by 2015, but would not remark directly on these cuts.
