So here are few helpful tips for the month of February courtesy of the center that can help everyone stationed in the United Kingdom whether at RAFs Menwith Hill or Croughton or anywhere in between. Career Corner Tip It’s a new year why not try something new – a career portfolio. This is an old school job-hunting tool traditionally used by artists and journalists. For the rest of us it is a great way to showcase our talents to potential employers. A career portfolio can be used to show employers a complete picture of who you are – your experience, education, accomplishments and skill sets. You can elect to create a traditional binder type portfolio or you may prefer a web-based portfolio. Relocation Tip Managing a Move – The most up-to-date information on allowances and entitlements is on the per diem, travel and transportation allowance committee website at http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/perdiem. Financial Tip *Say no to surprises. Check your bank and credit card statements every month for unfamiliar transactions. *Say no to scams. Be wary of e-mails or phone calls asking for personal information. A person who calls and claims to be from your bank, for example, should already have your information on file. *Say yes to shredding. Don’t just discard bills, statements, credit card offers, and other documents that contain personal data – shred them. *Say yes to credit checks. Keeping your eye on your credit report is another way to spot problems. You’re entitled to a free credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies every year. Readiness Tip Below are a few tips concerning practical preparation for both the individual and family members in preparation for deployment: *Put security measures in place, if appropriate (additional locks, security system, medical alert, etc.) *Check smoke detectors and replace batteries, as appropriate. *Make sure household appliances are in good repair. *If single, make arrangements for supervisor, trusted co-worker, friend, etc. to periodically check in on your house, dorm, personal belongings, etc. *As always, spouses and family members are welcome to attend all pre-deployment/post-deployment briefings. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More... |
