![]() A 16 year old was shoot and died on the way to hospital. I can't tell you how many time I seen someone have alot of bleeding and die on the way to hospital. I got into many an argument with paramedic on a seen because they would leave the seen until Patient was "stable"
Hears a little advise for you and your loved ones. If you or your loved ones are ever in a situation where you or they are bleeding alot, The paramedic are NOT going to stabilize you or them. The best thing to do is get to a hospital where whole blood can be put back into you or them. A paramedic gives D5W or Lidican IV that helps in the killing of the pt. The pt needs Blood that transferrers Oxygen not clear liquid. My advise is to demand that the ambulance transport now, At gun point if necessary. You will be in big deep shit with law enforcement but your loved one will be alive. Now if its your mother-in-law? Ron |

![]() The paramedics in the state of Washington will stabilize and get the bleeding stopped before transportation. However, if someone is bleeding internally you can't get the bleeding stopped and just maybe getting them to the hospital and emergency surgery fast is important and in that case taking someone to the hospital by private vehicle may save their lives but in most cases paramedics save many, many, many more lives than than those which are lost. Not much can be done for internal bleeding.

Paramedic stop bleeding and stabilize in every community, Thats the way they have been doing it for a long time. However, you cut an artery and your not going to stabilize. the paramedics try and try and pump in fluids and pretty soon there is clear liquid running out the wound and the pt is dead. Paramedics are excellent in most cases, except when there is a lot of bleeding. Clear liquid does not transfer oxygen and the pt will die in 4-5 min without whole blood replacement,If the paramedic gives a clear liquid D5, Liticane, to a heavy blood lose pt, they killed the patient just as if the stuck them in the heart with a knife. A broken arm/leg, vain bleeding , sick, heart attack, insulin, etc, they should stabilize before transport, NOT on a arty cut or any kind of heavy bleeding, Load and go, Hall ass to the nearest place that has whole blood. Thats the ONLY thing that will save the pt. Try to tell that to a paramedic? Like talking to a wall. I used to just file a report on what I thought the Paramedic should have done and send it to the pt relatives. Good Samaritan act protected the paramedics and the EMS company. I really hated to do that cause I liked the paramedics and worked with them every day, But I don't like loosing a pt on my shift not to mention it ruins his afternoon. Ron |

![]() Paramedics and EMTs do a great job at stopping external bleeding. Even major arteries, its that internal bleeding that can't be stopped! People die of external bleeding but in most cases it can be stopped. If a large external artery is severed (femoral) it can provide problems, the carotid artery is extremely dangerous situation. Those people may not make it even though immediately shipped off to the emergency room and emergency surgery. Also sometime people die of other things not associated with bleeding. I can't argue with you that sometimes it would be better to just go straight to the emergency room than wait for the medics, however most people don't have the experience and knowlege to make such a decision. For most people it is better to call for the professionals and let them make an assessment. In this situation with youngster who was shot my guess is that he wouldn't have made it anyway. When you are full of bullets all kinds of things can lead to death.

One bullet. I wasn't there , so I don't know, But Id bet the farm that the paramedics tried to stabilize him, and that ain't gona happen. He died with Paramedic assistance. And a cut Femoral artery, you got about the time it takes to say , Oh Father please forgive me. Thats about it. I have saved several lives by putting a BP cuff just above the artery cut and shut off the flow of blood and called life flight, circumventing the ambulance, You can not stabilize an arty cut, Load and go, and every time I let The ambulance handle it the pt dies, so I just quit letting the ambulance handle it. I got in trouble several times for not calling the ambulance and all I ever told our administration was I'll call them if you want me to , but the pt will die. I NEVER got an answer back from administration EVER. I am not in that seat to please or get along with EMS or the administration , I am in that seat to help people that need my help. and if I get some feathers ruffled for what I do in helping people , Just to bad. BUTTTTTTTT, When I get to the pt first, I have NEVER lost a pt. Mostly because I dont think about SOPs or rules or making friends, I think of what I can do to help this person. But that part of my life is over, what am I even talking about.eah? |

![]() News reports indicate three shots, point blank range, and the kid went down like a sack of grain without a single noise or utterance. Sounds very grim and not much chance for anyone to do much at all. First report may be inaccurate, don?t know, except it's a fact that the kid is dead. One more time, a school killing and thats very tragic.

![]() Thats the trouble with reports. Accuracy.
The first report was that the kid died on the way to hospital. That says he was alive while en route. so I would say what was the time that they loaded him into the ambulance and what was the time there were en route to the hospital, I would bet there was a time that the paramedics tried to stabilize him, which should have been spent driving there ass off to the hospital. ![]() We sometimes loaded those who obviously won't make it and allowed the Emergency Rm Doc to pronounce them dead. It saved a lot of red tape with coroners office and having to stay at the scene until a corner or rep arrived at the scene. It also was better PR for the dept. It made us look like we had made an effort (which was true) but if we had just left them there and called a coroner if wouldn't have looked good. Plus if we kept trying, just maybe, they might make it. We'd do CPR all the way to the hospital, then the emergency room would go through their routine and sometimes miracles did happen and someone we didn't think was going to make, did make it.
Ron, my main concern with your remarks is: you and I have the experience to make the judgment calls about when to rush to the hospital and when to call the medics, most people don't have that experience or background. Some people might just throw people in the back of a vehicle and take off thinking they are doing best for the patient when in reality, depending upon the injury, they may be doing more harm. Keith |

actually, I don't care anymore, Thats behind me. I was just giving people hear some advise, And being advise, they can take it or leave it. My advise was to heavy bleeding, nothing more. And I really don't care if people hear take the advise either. Ron |
