WASHINGTON - A group of young men seized in a Miami warehouse have been charged in a federal indictment with conspiring with al-Qaida to commit acts of violence in the United States, including blowing up Chicago's Sears Tower.

The seven individuals indicted by a federal grand jury were taken into custody Thursday when authorities swarmed the warehouse in the Liberty City area, removing a metal door with a blow torch. The indictment also alleges plans to blow a federal building in Miami in conjunction with the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and other top-level Bush administration officials scheduled a news conference for later Friday and a similar briefing was in Miami.

The thing I don't like about this and the Canadian capture thing is that there would have been No crim at all if it wasn't for the FBI.
I would guess that with enough money on the line the FBI could get anyone to buy into any crime. That don't make it right or wrong , just questionable.

Conspiracy to commit a crime does not require an informant. The very fact that an informant was used in the case of the Florida defendants is immaterial to the fact that they were planning to conduct attacks on targets within the United States.

The defendants should go to the front of the line for trial after the prosecution completes its case. With the evidence that has been presented, a verdict of guilt should be a pro forma act. Immediately afterwards, these guilty defendants should be executed. We need to send a signal to the world of the wannbee and actual terrorists: screw with us, and we'll expedite your meeting with Allah.

I don't know about money, These guys guys are bad and should be thrown under the jail. Im saying for the right amount of money just about anyone will do the crime, And if the FBI sets up the crime, is it a crime?
Lets say the FBI came to you and gave you a Million $ as up front money for you to rob a Van carrieing 50 million$ the van is driven by a old lady all alone 25 miles from anything, Hears a gun for you.
When you get there the gun don't work there is no money, and the money they gave you is counterfit, Is there a crime?

Locks on doors are for honest people, Criminals just break the door. If there was no lock on the door for the honest people would they be honest?
After all, why do police officers have locks on there lockers in the locker room? Its a police station and they are police, whos going to steal there stuff?

This particular bunch doesn?t have the ambiance of being way smart or clever or all that clandestine. On the other hand, seem to have some very vile ?wannabe a martyr for Allah? intent and purpose. Good candidate for a sting op it seems and that is what was served up.
As the story unravels, it may be that they are nothing but a bunch of ?dumb as a box rocks? guys being manipulated in a cult-like fashion by some perp that is smarter than they are. I guess we have seen that often enough; Manson, ?Cinque? and Osama come to mind, and then there?s Marin County?s best, ?Jihad Johnny? Walker as the manipulated, door knob for a brain, jihadist.

It will be interesting to find out the level of training and resources that were at their disposal. Taking down the Sears Tower would take a whole bunch more than fanatical cult-like zealotry.
But then, a hand full of zealots took down the twin towers and had nothing more than box knives.

The sears tower is not the trade center building, The twin towers were built not very well. Sears is built very well. Been in Sears many times and seen the inter workings, It would take several planes full of gas to even start the falling process.

Thanks for the info, Ron. The WTC was a bird cage design where the structural strength was on the outside vertical load bearing beams. The aircraft took out about 1/2 of the load bearing structure for about 3 floors worth, and with the weight of eleven floors a top that weakened structure, the rest was just a mathematical certainty.
The Sears Tower looks to be much more substantial which even further begs the question as to how they were going to pull that off and what they had in mind to do it with.

all they would have done if they could have pulled something off was to make a mess. Sears has an observation floor , I think its the 140th, the windows angle outward so you can lean out a little and look straight down, what a feeling. The whole top of the building moves with the wind, very strange.
