A Microcosm Of Things To Come?

Hurricane Katrina has stripped back the sheets of fantasy and laid bare the reality of life in the real world!

For countless years, the people of our great nation have leaped to the forefront when the forces of nature have ravished humanity anywhere upon the planet. As such, I have always wondered what would happen were the sneaker upon the other foot?

A monster by the name of Katrina recently roared into town and loosed the dogs of Hell upon great portions of the United States. With no respect for age, race or financial status, this hurricane has ripped apart lives, destroyed livelihoods, and left the region as devastated as if a series of nuclear blasts had torn through the area!

Good people, as they always do, have rushed to the forefront in the same fashion as they did right after 9/11! But also in the lead elements of humanity, have been the stinking profiteers, the greedy looters, the savage murderers, the soulless scam artists and the ever-present political opportunists seeking to capitalize upon a tragic event!

Even the morally void and the societally insane, have slithered forth from the rotting woodwork in an attempt attempt to lay claim to the spoils of despair!

Granted, there were several countries that returned past favors by offering material help, while others rendered their condolences, which in itself could not buy a 98-cent hamburger at the corner greasy spoon. The biggest tragedy of all, however, is in the way that many have taken to the streets, looting, murdering and raping even children, this according to the media!

The violence, chaos and hopelessness of the situation has even been echoed by the Mayor of New Orleans Himself, who summed up the situation by expressing his own fear and disgust over the way in which this emergency is being mishandled. And if his sentiments are true, sentiments apparently being shared by the President Himself, then all of this hollow rhetoric about preparedness (FEMA, RED CROSS, ETC.) is just that, as empty as a chamber pot in Hell!

As a matter of fact, it also amazes me how the current call to action was quick to specify ?SEND MONEY ONLY!? Not food, not blankets, not medicines, nor the other implements of survival! These, after all, are the essentials that would supply immediate relief! Whereas money alone, often has a tendency to get lost or diverted, as was evident by the Great Cedar Fire of San Diego County, not all that long ago!

And while we are on the subject, if the anarchy of New Orleans and the other areas that were devastated by Katrina, are any kind of gage, what would happen if this or any other disaster were replayed on a grander national scale? Would the profiteers, especially the "Fuel Supplying Vermin", the "Rhetoric Heroes" of politics, and the charities that are conveniently absent accept to raise hundreds of millions of dollars in times of woe, again spring from the loins of Hades to feast off of the blood and carnage of their fellow Americans?

If this is a microcosm of things that are yet to come, then "We The People" have been misled into believing that all is well, and that the government (our government), the bureaucracies, big business, and even the billion dollar charities are always there to help the afflicted, and not just themselves!

?A harsh reality, but a reality none the less!? And granted, many, many people have come forth to selflessly assist our devastated comrades in Katrina?s path, but for every compassionate entity, an equal number (or so it seems) of venomous snakes have emerged to take advantage of a sad situation and the victims of disaster!
