Reunification Of A Nation!

Back after the American Civil War (1861-1865), reunification came hard, slow, and in some cases, not at all! Along with the Carpetbaggers and opportunists, came the die-hards, the untrusting, and the criminal elements. ?The latter being those who thrived and profited off of the pain and misery of their fellow life-travelers!?

?In some ways, not all that much has changed - take for instance, the stock market!? For every fortune that is made, many more lose their livelihoods on but a turn of a card, spin of the wheel, or a roll of the financial dice!

Back on ?Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929?, many people who had lived ?La Buona Vita (the good life)? before that time, were unable to come to grips with now having to exist within a greatly diminished life style! From a ?Mansion on Park Avenue?, to a ?Rat Infested Tenement? on the ?Lower East Side? was quite a put down! ?As such, many a bonvivant opted to take the big plunge (10 stories or higher)!?

So here we are today in the grand age of enlightenment - higher educational expectations, a far-faster life style, proper nutrition (including a hamburger in every pot), and of course, a government that still treats us all like an ignorant bunch of farm boys and sweat-shop gophers! The rich just get richer, politicians just get greedier and more untouchable, and the media keeps us all convinced that (in reality) we never had it so good? ?Hardly the glue of reunification!?

The biggest victims of this mass hallucination, however, just may be the people themselves. We (as a nation) always did have a morbid fascination with crooks and criminals! As a matter of fact, we have always sought to deify people like John Dillenger, Jesse James, J.P. Morgan and even the current robber barons of the early Twenty First Century! Hell, many a felon who now resides in protected splendor, would have been incarcerated or hung not all that many years ago. Now, however, most are gifted with stardom, instead of a noose! ?Now what does that say about us en masse?!?

There will always be the rich, the poor and the middle classes, although I am not all that sure about the absolute survival of the latter?

There in, however, does not rest the quintessential problem! The real problem arises, as it did in France (circa: 1789-1799) when truth, and fraternity, gives way to me-ism, bottomless greed, endless lust, and equality in name only!! ?For when any entity (or group thereof), born of free man, loses sight of his mortality and his peer status in a society, then a cold, metal spear has been driven deeply into the hearts of us all!?

True unity rests not in the arts of war alone, nor does it reside merely within patriotic fervor or the breast of the zealot. Rather, it dwells within truth itself, and the adherence to genuine honor! And this is not just "A truth of convenience or political correctness", but rather a truth in substance and a truth of spirit, right down to one's mortal coil!

Real unification is, after all, not just a facade or a hollow tenet, it is rather a state of inward brotherhood, a common cause, mutual survival, and even the will to resist that which is wrong or harmful to the whole, be it domestic or internationally spawned!

?Are we unified - TRULY UNIFIED? Think about it for a moment, minus the political spin, media hype, or political correctness!?
