![]() You wanna know my definition of guts? Well, you're gonna get it anyway. Guts is an 80 year old blind muslim woman walking by all those "martyrs" to do something which is one of the simplest but dearest of rights. She voted. She has been there through all the threats, the bombs, Saddam and all his "heros". I can imagine nothing more terrifying than to be in the middle of a war and be old and blind. She was not afraid. As another Iraqi man said, "Today I am human." Not all the spin in the world can change what these people did.

![]() It could be that the purple index finger becomes the true Iraqi ?red badge of courage?. Little bits and pieces come out, but this AM there was a news bit on BBC and it was about women picking up the threatening leaflets and tearing them up. This was going on a few days before the election but for obvious reasons was not reported. Though not exclusively so, it seems that the older women are standing the toughest. My guess is that a young, strong and healthy young man or women without a purple index finger is probably in for the business end of a broom wielded by some older Gal in a black burka. As well, I?d bet that a bottle of purple PVC primer is worth more than gold in Baghdad today.
And yes, absolute guts for sure and an ?in their face? attitude toward the terrorists. Perhaps just a bit of Iraqi national identity showing through, let?s hope so. Scamp

![]() In my youth, I stressed freedom, and in my old age I stress order. I have made the great discovery that liberty is a product of order. --Will Durant
[F]reedom is not an unlimited license, an unlimited choice, or an unlimited opportunity. Freedom is first of all a responsibility before the God from whom we come. --Alan Keyes Freedom is always and exclusively freedom for the one who thinks differently. --Rosa Luxemburg Fight and you may die. Run and you'll live, at least a while. And, dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance -- just one chance -- to come back here and tell our enemies, that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom! --William Wallace (Mel Gibson) Braveheart And this for those who want to see Democracy in Iraq to prevail: Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want rain without thunder and lightning. --Frederick Douglass (1817?-1895) As with any change, there will be turmoil and dissention and resistance; and at times it may seem that all was for naught. But that's a lie. It's all for something, regardless of whether the outcome is what we desire. And what is the outcome? When is the outcome determined? At a personal level..."I" have not "turned out" yet. Whatever I am today can be changed at a moment's notice - although not necessarily permanently. Whatever Iraq is today or tomorrow or ten years from now is not the final outcome. But GOD BLESS the men and women of our country and our allies who believe (and rightfully so) that they CAN and HAVE made a difference in the lives of those who endured unspeakable atrocities! ---GOD BLESS AMERICA and GOD BLESS AMERICANS! --Trina R. Clark (trina63)
