![]() I never got a 30 or 40 round clip untill I got out of the Army, I bought a CAR-15 and a 50 round clip, Looked real dumb, but worked well. $15.00 worth of 5.56 ball each clip.
When did the military give out 30 round mags. Sure would have come in handy a few times I can remember. " CLICK" sounds like shit when you expect something else. Ron |

![]() I don't know when they were issued. I left Nam in September 69' and we were still using the 20 round clips.

![]() I never saw anything other than a 20 round clip in Vietnam (72-73).
In Panama, (89) when the war started, there were 4-30 round clips in the armory. The only other Vietnam vet on post got the 2 and I got 2. I taped mine together and loaded mine in my M-16. I had 5-20 round clips in pouches. Everyone else had 20s. Darrel

![]() They are magazines not clips. Now, I saw a few 30 rd mags but they were bought on the civilian market and sent over. I carried a Car 15 with 23 20rd mags, 21 in bandoliers and 2wo taped together in the carbine.

![]() Only saw the 20-round magazines. My carrier of choice was a used claymore bag, and I kept it as full as I could.

![]() I was like you Superscout....I carried about 2 1/2 times the basic load. I used the side pockets on my pants, the pockets on my ruck and a claymore bag. I also used to carry at least two bandoleers to re-load magazines. I never saw a 30 round magazine in Vietnam and I think that they were alll "after market" things that were sold on the civilian market.

![]() the Army has 30 round Mag. (clips) now don't they?
I carried 3 bandoliers, (21 - mags) one in my gun and one in my shirt pocket, I carried maps in my big pants pocket. The Mag in my shirt pocket was easier to get at when laying on the ground, after that ya just had to dig for one. Ron |

![]() In the Ist Inf. Div. we had 20 round mags but were not allowed to put more then 18 rounds in each mag, some thing to do with the springs in the magazines.

![]() I would see infrontry guys with two 20 round magazines taped together . I thought we only put 17 rounds in a clip. Not being infrontry, they never seemed to want to give us a lot of amo. We usually had about 5 clips. I would scrounge up an extra 5, total 10 but was real careful not to use them thinking 170 rounds would go fast when the S. hit the fan.

![]() If anyone read our story about how my buddies, Wayne, Marion and the others were firing out the windows of their trucks in a convoy. I didn't that time, because I was conserving my amo. I guess I always thought we needed more than 5 or 10 magazines, just in case.
