Question A Mighty 2.2

?Egad, how did they ever survive it!??

The news has just related that a whopping 2.2 magnitude (Richter Scale) earthquake has rocked the area around Concord, New Hampshire!

Granted, earthquakes in this area are rare indeed, but I have had mice run across my floor here in Southern California that have generated more shake and rumble that 2.2!

Of course, here on the West Coast (Shaky Side), a little seismic action is not all that uncommon, and with the San Andreas Fault running just out to the east of us, and then all the way up to the north of San Francisco, not counting all the other lesser faults, we have grown accustomed to the shake, rattle and roll!

As earthquakes go, 2.2 could barely stir-up the water in the bottom of the john. But to those unaccustomed to temblors, they must have thought that the Devil Himself was paying a call!?

About 95 out of every 100 quakes occur along two seismic belts - the Pacific Belt and the Mediterranean Belt, and most of the world?s active volcanoes and the younger mountain ranges are in these areas as well. Also, volcanic eruptions can also cause potent earthquakes, and then, there are those Great Sea Waves (Tsunamis).

Of course, quakes can occur in other regions as well, as was proven by this "Wee Little Quake" that just occurred in New Hampshire. Could it possibly be that the upcoming "New Hampshire Democratic Primary" generated this temblor - produced no doubt, by all of that political gas pent up in one place at the same time?

HC,

One time in Ohio back in the 80s we had a small earthquake also.

I was on the bank fishing and drinking and went to sleep for a nap, and when I woke up the radio was playing " shake rattle and roll ".

Didint know what the heck was going on, but I know I wasnt drunk enough to notice something shaking the ground.

That is a true story.

enough........

Thumbs up Quakes

Quakes are really not all that unusual around here, it's just that most of them are in the 2 range or smaller. Several years ago we had one that was in the low 4's, about the biggest one in 50 or more years.

East coast mountains were once higher than the Rocky's are now and we had a lot of earthquake activity. Course that was a long, (in geological time) time ago.

All those folks wanting to be prez landing in Manchester and an earthquake on the same night. Maybe more than two unrelated events.

Stay healthy,
Andy

Some can generate a 2.2 during a bowl movement.

One morning a few years back, I was prepping for an all day ride up into the Bershires, when my house started shaking like some giant grabbed it. Things were rattling and bouncing so bad I thought I was back in Cali.
Now I spent most of my growing up years between Japan and California. And I've been known to sleep through quakes, but you would have thought this was at least a 6.5. It was reported at a measely 3.5 quake. We obviously are not built for shaking like the Quaking State (CA). Boy the news grabbed that up and ran for almost a week.

Guess it proves, when you aren't used to something you notice it more.
