New Poll Finds 42% Of Palestinians Support Attacks On US Soldiers In Iraq

Luntz Research is distributing in the United States a new poll conducted by the Public Opinion Research of Israel and the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion. The surveys were conducted between September 21-27 and polled 600 Israeli Jews (+/- 4%), 400 Israeli Arabs (+/- 4.9%), and 607 Palestinians (+/- 4%).

The surveys found: -- 0% of Israeli Jews support the ongoing attacks on American troops in Iraq; 61% of Israeli Arabs support the attacks; 42% of the Palestinians support the attacks.

-- Among Israeli Jews, Iran is seen as the greatest threat to world peace, with 52% citing them; Israeli Arabs (40%) cited the United States as the greatest threat; Palestinians (51%) cited the Israelis. -- 95% of Israeli Jews supported the US in the war with Iraq; 19% of Israeli Arabs supported the US; 10% of the Palestinians supported the US.

-- 96% of Israeli Jews believe "terrorists" were responsible for the 9/11 attacks; 41% of Israeli Arabs believe the attackers were terrorist (33% believe they were "martyrs" or "freedom fighters"); 37% of the Palestinians believe they were terrorists (36% martyrs or freedom fighters).

-- 91% of Israeli Jews believe Osama bin Laden was responsible for the 9/11 attacks; 34% of Israeli Arabs believe it was bin Laden; 46% of the Palestinians believe it was bin Laden.

-- 98% of Israeli Jews agree with the statement that Hamas is a terrorist group; 27% of Israeli Arabs agree; 13% of the Palestinians agree.

-- 59% of Israeli Arabs agree with the statement that Hamas are freedom fighters; 82% of the Palestinians agree they are freedom fighters.

-- 99% of Israeli Jews believe bombings of Israeli buses and restaurants are acts of terrorism; 57% of Israeli Arabs believe it's terrorism; 10% of the Palestinians believe it's terrorism.

-- 38% of Israeli Jews believe Israel should "withdraw from all the territories, including East Jerusalem" and grant Palestinian statehood if the "Palestinians were to stop the terrorist attacks and give up the right of return"; 57% believe Israel should not withdraw and grant statehood.

-- 26% of Israeli Arabs believe Israel should withdraw from all the territories, including East Jerusalem and grant Palestinian statehood if the Palestinians were to give up the right of return; 65% believe Israel should not withdraw and grant statehood.

-- 11% of Palestinians believe Israel should withdraw from all the territories, including East Jerusalem and grant Palestinian statehood if the Palestinians were to give up the right of return; 80% believe Israel should not withdraw and grant statehood.

-- 83% of Israeli Arabs believe Hamas and Islamic Jihad should "give up their armed struggle against Israel" if Israel should withdraw from all the territories, including East Jerusalem and grant Palestinian statehood; 13% believe they should not.

-- 26% of Palestinians believe Hamas and Islamic Jihad should "give up their armed struggle against Israel" if Israel should withdraw from all the territories, including East Jerusalem and grant Palestinian statehood; 59% believe they should not.

-- 47% of Israeli Jews say peace is "most important" to them; 20% say freedom; 4% say death defending one's religion; 25% say your homeland.

-- 53% of Israeli Arabs say peace is "most important" to them; 21% say freedom; 5% say death defending one's religion; 21% say your homeland.

-- 23% of Palestinians say peace is "most important" to them; 29% say freedom; 23% say death defending one's religion; 24% say your homeland.

-- 87% of Israeli Jews agree that democracy is the best form of government; 86% of Israeli Arabs agree; 80% of Palestinians agree.

Your thread gave me the tought that it would be VERY interesting to see some poll results that would come directly from Arab-Muslim pollsters, asking similar questions, or even just to see WHAT questions they would ask...! I don't even know if the Arab countries TAKE polls though, you?

I wasn't thinking you had made the poll, and am sure the stats are reliable... I often wonder though if we could see polls generated throughout the middle east, it would be instructive, is all.
