I just read an article out of the San Diego Union that was poignant, truthful, and enlightening. Without going into great detail, the piece touched on the art of debate and discussion. It also eluded to the fact that it is not only a right, but indeed a responsibility to express one?s opinion!

It further went on to discuss how many (if not most) people shirk or refrain from saying what is on their minds for fear, in my opinion, of offending the powerful. But the most moving part of the whole piece was, again in my opinion, the title itself. Seven little words that truly said it all -

?IN A DEMOCRACY, SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN!?

Watched a movie last night with Michael Douglas - The American President. Surely you accept what he said, although fiction, in relation to freedom of speech, flag burning & less appealing actions. The issue is not the act or comment. The issue is having the right and the freedom to do such things. Any retaliation to such acts lowers the standard to those of any third world dictatorship.

Unfortunately we are seeing retaliatory incidents in Australia to islamic institutions for what happened in Bali. To condenm those who were not the perpetrators, instigators or conspiritors does not do justice to our free spirit and tollerance.
