Army teams tackle nationwide cleanup of thousands of former defense sites

Thousands of military properties nationwide, dating as far back as World War I, have been relinquished to new private or municipal landowners. Evaluating those properties, communicating legacy risk and remediating some lands, is the task given by the Department of Defense to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under the Formerly Used Defense Sites Program.
