Default UPDATE: Coast Guard rescues two missing boaters near Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Two missing boaters were rescued by the Coast Guard Friday morning on the southern shore of Pine Island, Georgia.

Neither of the two boaters reported having serious injuries.

Ronnie Hardin and Jonna Brian, both adults, were rescued by a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island, Georgia, when a grounded vessel that matched the description of the missing boat was discovered. The two boaters were brought aboard Station Tybee's boat and taken to Skidaway Boat Ramp in Savannah.

Family members notified watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston, South Carolina, command center of the missing boaters Thursday evening. The initial report stated that one of the men had called his family to report his 14-foot long aluminum vessel was taking on water due to rain in the area.

Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to notify boaters in the area of the situation and launched a Coast Guard crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Savannah to search.

For more information contact the Coast Guard 7th District Public Affairs Detachment Jacksonville at 305-318-1864.
