Default I did wonder why the chopper had not been destroyed

Seems that one of the others would have shot it up with a few rockets. I have survived a helicopter crash and you are so disoriented you are lucky to be able to tell which way is up much less engage an enemy, especially if he is on top of you within a few minutes. SOG had a specialty group (SOG 81) that was in place to get to downed aircraft as soon as possible to see if there were any surviving crew and to destroy the aircraft if it had not done so on impact. These were called Brightlight missions and had a high priority.

Default Just to make it interesting!

What about the pilots that went in to get these guys and turned back because of heavy fire. IMHO, wimps

Why can I say that? Because if you want to know something about me, here goes.

We had six Cav crews attached to the attack Battalion. They were short handed. When we coverd a recon unit, our job was to cover them and our scout aircraft. My Platoon Leader and a Aeroscout was in the OH-58 that was my responsibility. They called on the radio that they were hit by several small arms rounds. We flew in between them and the fire, located the troops that were shooting and flew straight at them, launching 2 rockets and some 20mm, killing most of them. We did a return to target, took some hits, and flew back at them at 250 kts. Under heavy small arms fire we launched 12 more rockets and emptied the 20mm. All dead, and we didn't cut and run from the fight. No, I didn't go down, but they damn well would never have gotten their grubby hands on the guys in the Scout. Is that enough, or would you rather I talk more about things I prefer not to?

Default OK......

....Now "you're" an English Major...

...and the other pilots over there are "wimps", in your humble opinion...

...I'm not here to slam you,... If I did you would know it.

...For someone who "was" a pilot, your attitude towards our fellow soldiers leaves me wondering why you would attach anything "political" in a statement against them, now is not the time to be throwing out such bullshi+...

...As far as my position with our Chapter, I treat EVERYONE with the Honor bestowed to them, and they are entitled to it until I know otherwise...

...my comments were about your "negitive" slam, and until I know you better, or in person, your prior words didn't prove anything to me that you even served...

...I served my time making sure that EVERY pilot had a ejection seat that would work EVERY TIME, and faced death unarmed against a crazed gunman, so take your comment on "my lazy a$$" and stick it, I didn't attack you personally, I questioned your credability due to your limited "vague" posts,...

...although we share the same birthday, we don't share the same viewpoints , but I will respect your time in service now that you have provided some details,...

... BUT make no mistake, I will jump back at you when I feel that you are diminishing the men, and women that are now fighting this war to protect my children's freedoms in the future.........

...don't like my opinion, put up, or shut up...

Default HUH?

Not sure why I would have to prove to YOU that I served, but hey, let's have coffee sometime. I'm game

If you disagree with me, that's fine, but asking me to keep my opinion to myself is wrong. I didn't ask you to keep yours to yourself.

Seriously, if I get to NY again to see some of my old stomping ground at the 3/17 Cavalry at Fort Drum, let's do lunch.

I have nothing more to offer, I have "PUT UP" and now I'll shut up.............over and out :cl:

Default Yup...

...I'm a hot head like most of us are right now...

...and I'm not politically correct, and I don't spell correctly, but my feelings towards my Country, and fellow soldiers is unwavering,...

... I will apoligize if I rattled your cage and your welcome in my house anytime...

...I understand that men will sacrifice themselves for the lives of others when nesc, I stood in that position once, but not on the battle field, I have never meant to discredit any other service person for their service, we have had some weenies here, and there before, and I have that "switch" that doesn't include the off position, so I do not have any tolerance for anyone at present that "knocks" any portion of our effort in this fight against "terrorism"...

...does this mean I gotta use spell check everytime............

...Gary, in all sincerity, I do beat the bushes for "wannabe's" now after what I was put through, and I'm sorry if I offended you...

..."youngster".................

Default Agreed

I'm a hot head too. And right now, our young men and women are in harms way and I'm not there with them. I hate that I'm not and sometimes take it out by being a hot head.

We are the best military in the world and I love each and every one of them. I do however think that politics play a part in what we do on the battlefield.

And I can't spell either So, I'll see you someday in NY. I loved it there in the Upstate. Great Fishing

Take care

I'll see if I can look him up and let him know you're thinking of him. You never know who you might run into while running for State House
