Exclamation The Tiger Survivors

4-27-2022

“History has a way of bastardizing the truth, but in the end – The Truth Still Remains the Truth, and nothing can ever betray or even change that! And such has been the case all throughout human history, all the way from our primordial beginnings, to the present and even into the distant future I suspect!” (hrt - 27 April 2022)

The same is also true of “The Tiger Survivors (of the United States Army’s Twenty-Fourth Infantry Division)” - that gallant band of patriots who stood fast and were captured during the initial onslaught of the Communist Forces during “The Korean War of The Early 1950s!”
Now in their twilight years of life and down to “A Mere Twenty-One Living American Warriors and Nine Civilian Members As Well” (as of this writing), who are still numbered among the living, their exploits, their tenacity and their history as well, will soon (unfortunately) be known but to “The Almighty Himself!” But like all historically significant individuals and groups, their exploits and travails will soon become naught but another forlorn chapter within the tattered pages of “Our Gallant United State’s History!”

So once again, who are “These Tiger Survivors” and what makes them a chapter of our immortal history that must never be forgotten? They were our kids, our uncles and our conscience as well! But most of all, they are an integral part of “Our United States History”, just like those who fought, suffered and even died to preserve those freedoms and liberties that many of us Americans now take for granted. And as the old sage once said: “Those Who Forget Their History Are Often Doomed To Repeat It!”

And how do I know this, you may ask – well I’ll tell you?”

My wife’s uncle, Corporal Melvin Hampton, 20 years old, of The Twenty-Fourth Infantry Division, was among those were captured, tortured and eventually beaten to death “In July of Nineteen-fifty” by the North Koreans – and so it was and in all warfare - so it may forever be?

But who are “These Tiger Survivors”, what did they do and how will they be remembered?
The Tiger Survivors were the group of “American Prisoners of War” who were captured by “North Korean Communist Forces in July of Nineteen Fifty”, during the beginning phases of that conflict that never really ended!

They were the vanguard of our troops, and the group that was tasked with slowing down the dastardly and overwhelming forces that invaded portions of “South Korea”, just about five years or so after the completion of World War Two.

These Tiger Survivors, so named because of the ferocity of “The North Korean Major” who was tasked with herding (literally) our troops northward into captivity, survived amidst some of the most brutal and degrading circumstances ever faced by “Captive American Forces!”

So here we are today, with but barely a handful of these survivors still alive! But the élan and the courage of “These Tiger Survivors” must never be forgotten for they are us and we will forever be them, for as long as “Our American Men and Women in Uniform” continue to fight to keep us free!

“MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA AND KEEP US SECURE - AND MAY HE ALWAYS PROTECT THOSE WHO HAVE PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE TO SECURE OUR LIBERTIES AND TO RETAIN OUR FREEDOMS FOREVER!”
