![]() Thanks for catching the typo, Doc.
When I returned to Nam in Feb68 with the 82nd, we landed at Chu Lai. Because of Khe San you couldn't highjack a C-130. We did get a few to haul our arty and their guns up to Phu Bai, but the rest of us would have to convoy it. We didn't have near enough vehicles so we got a bunch of them from you guys. Thanks ![]() As far as the actions described by Schell, chances are I wasn't there for them. I DEROS'd the end of JUN67. The rest of the summer I was back in the Land Of Round-Eyed Women. I'd still like to read the article, though. You going to try to make the GA Campout in APR, Doc. Been wanting to shake your hand for years now.

![]() The 13 or 14MAY67. My company was being moved to another area in the mountains. The LZ was small and could only take 2-3 slicks at a time. I was on the second chopper. When the second group began to come in, Charlie opened up on them and us. One of the birds came down from small arms fire with 6-7 of us on it. One of our guys was killed, but I don't know if it was from the crash or enemy fire. I don't remember how the crew made out. I was pretty busy trying like hell to secure the LZ. A couple of us on the ground were wounded in the initial attack. This was one of Charlie's favorite tactics on small LZs. They'd let a couple drop us off and then hit us, making it a hot LZ to where they wouldn't bring in anymore of us as reinforcements. Then they'd "hug" us real close so the helicoptors couldn't open up on them without hitting us, too. Luckily, we were able to push them back pretty quick so the doorgunners could open up on them. Could of turned nasty.

It seems TFO was a pretty big deal. When your in a Operation or in this case a Task Force, you don't realize the amount of planning and orgnisation that must have went on. I talked to BN and a few 101 guys from outside our little area. Sometimes we had no idea why we were going a certain direction but I guess it was to keep us from ourselves. Thanks Ron |

I think Ron's list is of the original units that were put into TFO when it was first formed up in APR67. I don't know exactly, but I think the 11th got there in late '67 from Hawaii. You and Doc Alan would know better than me.
