Animal Cruelty

Article in our local paper yesterday about an animal cruelty case here in our area. I won't go into morbid details, but kittens were tortured and then killed.

There are few things that infuriate me more than people who do that to domestic animals who have nothing in their hearts but love and trust for humans.

The guilty parties, three juveniles, are in custody...charged with felony cruelty.

In my area here, at least, it seems like it's almost always youth, doing it "for kicks".

I'm wondering if this kind of thing is how people like Jeff Dahmer and others of his ilk get their start, and then "graduate" to humans. D'ya think there could be a correlation here?

There is a definate and proven correlation. Almost all serial killers start out with small animals and work their way up. That's not to say that all people that are cruel to animals are serial killers or will become serial killers, but they definately have some serious sociopath tendencies that need addressed.

When I was quite young, my Gran' Da told me that "People that are cruel to animals have no souls." I've always remembered that and have always believed it.

A few years back three juveniles decided to torment some wildlife, caught some lizards put gasoline on the and lit them on fire. The lizards ran off into the buck brush and lit off one of the worst forest fires we have seen in a long time. This was all along the eastern slopes of the Sierras in our valley and quite a few homes were destroyed. One of the juveniles became so traumatized that he told all and some parents were looking at some staggering bills and the boys were looking at some time in the Elko Juvenile facility. Oh, most of the forest that was burned up was under the jurisdiction of the US Forest Service so I would imagine that they got some big time payback. I would speculate that that experience changed those boys forever and ever amen. Seeing a thirty ft. tall wall of flame just hauling buns and knowing they did it, just had to reorganize some gray matter I would think. It traveled so fast that some barn animals were lost; one was a very expensive breeding stallion. Hmm, hmm, talk about a living nightmare.

Depends on how old these kids are. When I was a kid there wasn't a safe animal within a mile. I killed everything, sparrows, with a 12 gage, cats with a bow, robins with a sling shot, magnifying glass to the ants, I even shot my best friend with a BB gun.
kids grow out of that stuff, Most of the time.
Now the only thing I kill is 4 deer each year and a bunch of catfish , I ain't stopen that.
Had Catfish yesterday at the station, and had deer (back strap) today)
I think I would worry more about being charged with a felony for killing a cat, seems a bit much for a cat.
Unless ya want to go to the slauter house and get out the ticket book, X 10,000 cows

And as Jesus entered into a certain village he saw a young cat which had none to care for her, and she was hungry and cried unto him, and he took her up, and put her inside his garment, and she lay in his bosom.
And when he came into the village he set food and drink before the cat, and she ate and drank, and shewed thanks unto him. And he gave her unto one of his disciples, who was a widow, whose name was Lorenza, and she took care of her.
And some of the people said, This man careth for all creatures, are they his brothers and sisters that he should love them ? And he said unto them, Verily these are your fellow creatures of the great Household of God, yea, they are your brethren and sisters, having the same breath of life in the Eternal.
And whosoever careth for one of the least of these, and giveth it to eat and drink in its need, the same doeth it unto me, and whoso willingly suffereth one of these to be in want, and defendeth it not when evilly entreated, suffereth the evil as done unto me; for as ye have done in this life, so shall it be done unto you in the life to come.

I hope they get the maximum sentence.

I think Animal cruelty is a big problem in our country. I think the kids should be punished big time.....as well as adults.

Down the street from my grandparents house a man got mad at his dog because he got out. He got some kind of gun and then precedded to shoot off each of the poor things legs and then finally shot it in the head. There is no reason for this...I don't care what anyone thinks...God didn't put them here for us to torture them.....no one would ever convince me its justified....EVER.

Cruelty, in general, is a very serious problem all over the world... sorta like greed.

What WOULD a world without cruelty or greed look like, one might ask one's self?

In my book, it is also animal cruelty to let dogs and cats run wild and have puppies and kittens...As stated above, those that practice animal cruelty sometimes graduate to inflicting pain and agony on human beings....

Larry,

You are correct Larry.
Often those who practise on Animals also practise on humans. Catch them and get them help before they hurt others.

Which is one reason I am not a big fan of Bow Hunting... it's inhumane to the wild creatures from what I can tell, when there are faster alternatives. I admire the bow hunter's skill, that I have got to add though. A beast gets hit with a sharp pointy thing, runs off into the forest and either bleeds to death or dies of exhaustion. At least a well aimed rifle shot will drop the critter on the spot.

One of my cousins is a second (and now going on THIRD) generation field butcher back home... the kind who drives their reefer truck out to little tiny farms where a family grew one or two beef each year for protein. All of them, the grandpa, dad and all three of his boys just get within a few yards of a beef, aim a shot at its head and WHAM... that beef is down, once in awhile they have some kick left in them, so the perfectly placed throat cut dispatches the matter swiftly... but they ain't going anywhere to bleed to death in agony and fear.
