Operation Iron Fist 2 (23 September 2004)

The 1st Infantry Division launched Operation Iron Fury 2 against Moktada al-Sadr's militia in Baghdad hoping to disband and disarm the rebel group. The militia had entrenched itself in the east Baghdad slum of Sadr City and U.S forces began its offensive with warplanes strikes. A top priority in the operation is also to detain or eliminate Moktada al-Sadr's lieutenants.
