On 6 March 1979, the Constellation CVBG was ordered from the South China Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The deployment to monitor the fighting between North and South Yemen was, most likely, meant to reassure the Saudis that the US intended to remain in the region despite the fall of the Shah. A carrier presence was kept in the region until 6 June 1979.
