1st Infantry Division Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment detained 49 individuals in a series of raids near Ad Duluiyah on Dec. 31 at about 2:30 a.m. The Soldiers searched 13 homes and the surrounding areas as part of ?Operation Powder River.? The Soldiers confiscated improvised explosive device making equipment, a global positioning system and a cellular telephone. The individuals were transported to a Coalition detention facility for questioning.

On Jan. 11, soldiers from Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment and the 203rd Iraqi Army Battalion discovered an arms cache of 23x 1.55mm rounds, 30 RPG?s, 25 grenades, 3x AK-47?s and roughly 10x lbs. of C-4 with blasting caps.

Later, 1st Infantry Division Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment detained 25 individuals in simultaneous raids near Ad Duluiyah on Jan. 14 at about 3:00 a.m. The Soldiers detained one individual suspected of improvised explosive devices attacks in the area. They confiscated five AK-47 assault rifles, two spools of wire, bomb making material--including 15 100-pound bags of ammonium nitrate, diesel fuel and soap, and 400-500 rounds of ammunition in the suspect?s residence. The Soldiers transported all 25 individuals to a coalition detention facility for questioning. The contraband items were also transported to a coalition facility for destruction.

On Jan. 16, First Infantry Division Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment discovered two weapons caches near Ad Dulu. The first of two was discovered by combat patrol A Troop. The cache contained two rocket propelled grenades, two pre-made improvised explosive devices, one SA-7 surface to air missile launcher, one mortar system and 200 mortars. The second cache was discovered by 1-4 Cavalry on a clearing mission. This cache contained 40 1,000-foot rolls of fuse wire and 500 pounds of dynamite. Both caches were secured and sent to a Multi-National force facility to be destroyed.
