Soldiers of 173rd Airborne Brigade joined with members of the 4th Infantry Division and Iraqi Security Forces on December 2, 2003 and launched Operation Bayonet Lightning. This operation was designed to flush out weapons, materials, and people that pose a threat against Coalition Forces in Kirkuk and Al Hawija.

The raids resulted in the capture of 26 individuals, a number of weapons and small munitions.
