Lawrence E. Nuckolls

Veteran of the Month, April 2004

I was born in Nov. 1948. I was drafted in June 1969 and was honorably discharged in May 1971. My basic training was at Ft. Campbell KY, AIT (Advanced Infantry Training) at Ft. Polk, LA, and shipped out for Vietnam in Nov 1969.

I was first assigned to a "leg" unit in Nov. 1969 (3/22 25th Infantry Division). I and some other FNGs were transferred to a mechanized infantry unit in Dec 1969 (2/22(M) 25th ID). We operated in III Corps in such areas as the Bo Loi Woods, Ho Bo Woods, Iron Triangle, War Zone C, and in May and June 1970, in Cambodia.

My MOS (military occupational specialty) was 81MM Mortars. There are some pictures in the gallery that show what I did in the last six months of my tour as a "computer" in FDC (fire direction control).

I have been married for 31 years and have 2 sons and no grandchildren as of yet. I have been employed in various mainframe computer jobs with the same federal agency since 1972. These include computer operator, scheduler, analyst, programmer and data storage administrator.

I will be retiring Apr 3, 2004. I look forward to doing some volunteer work teaching PC skills and also at the VA hospital. I am a member of American Legion Post 252 in Miliington TN. I have lived in the Memphis, TN. area my whole life, but we are looking forward to moving to somewhere warmer, maybe Florida, after my retirement.

I enjoy interacting with all the veterans on "Patriotfiles" and would like to thank David and the other veterans for this honor.

Larry
