Default Two Questions:

1. Do any of you know if the Army Reserves were called upon to search for debris from the shuttle? The only news I heard of is the FBI, NASA and Local Authorities.

2. If you an Army Reserve and called up to active duty for the IRAQ War, do you have to pay for certain combat boots, and if so how much?

Thanks..

enough...............

I had heard something about the Guard/Reserves helping in certain areas but that was just a sound/Video bite that went flitting on by and I have no specifics.

As to gear, I have really old information but during the VN war, those in Navy combat assignments got the serious protective gear, especially the boots with the steel mesh inner soul and the lead-lined jock strap. Those not directly assigned could buy the stuff at small stores or at bargain prices on the DaNang black market. I rode in Marine helicopters a lot so I got a legit set from small stores and wore all of it when I was chopering around but seldom had any other occasion to suit up. Same with the heavy flack vest. Going over the side or into the water with all that gear on was a sure trip to the bottom so I guess it was a choice of going out via diphtheria or pneumonia or something like that.

Reserve component personnel are issued all uniforms and are allowed to exchange non-servicable items for new ones. There is a limit to this of course. The soldiers are required to maintain these items and if they do not have them, may be given a statement-of-charges requiring them to buy new ones from the Army. Not sure if this applies to officers or not.
