Lt comes and says tomorrow we are going on a little walk in the park with Those 173 guys. Make sure you have fresh batteries and an extra handset.
You all smile nice for the film crew. and don't hurt the "combat Photographer" Ha, Ha, ha.
Little did he know that Tomorrow was going to be one of the important days in Vietnam history.

Our A-company and D company were around Danang and I believe B&C were somewhere North of Kontum. Next week we were to meet up in Danang with the rest of 1/35

03- 22 November. One of the bloodiest battles of the war takes place in the Central Highlands near Dak To. About 4,500 troops of the US 4th Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade face off 6,000 North Vietnamese troops of the 174th regiment. The North Vietnamese are forced to withdraw, with 1,455 dead troops. US causalities number 285 killed and 985 wounded.

That was a month or so before my time. One of my buddies talks about manning a quad 50 on the perimeter of the base camp at Pleiko around that time. Was that camp attacted or nearly over run in Nov 67 ??????

Splum
Pleiku , to my Knowledge was never attacked in force. But then I was only there when I got in country and when I left country.
I went on patrol west of Pleiku to a place called the Oasis and beyond. Just North west of Pleiku were some Fire Bases and LZs, many of which were attacked. Most of the FB and LZ had Quad 50s on them , If they had been there for more than a few months and a 106.
I think what you may be talking about is a Special Forces camp West of Kontum That was nearly over ran in Nov.
I don't believe the whole NVA Army could have over ran Pleiku or Dak To, They would have lost 100s of thousands of troops.
