Default ? for all you "in-country" types...

Attached are some photos of something called tiet cahn, or duck blood soup. Its ducks blood in a bowl, add ginger, some vegetables and sometimes sprinkle peanuts on top and there you have it, that’s your soup. It only takes about 15 minutes to prepare and it’s regarded as a source of strength by those who cook and eat it. And it's eaten raw! Do any of you remember this and have your tried it?

Never saw it... The 2 things I remember was the stench of rotting fish to make Neuc-mom (sp) sauce, and the 28 days old chicken eggs

Never saw that stuff. Did eat lots of veggies or meat with nuoc mam (still like it) and pho.
Of course I either ate at a small mom-n-pop roadside place or at someone's home. They gave me some very strange stuff but not this weird.

Advisor,

I agree. Ate lots of food with my counterparts or in the ville. My boss has a good Vietnamese friend in Charleston whom she visits every year and brings me some of their homemade nuoc mam. I would do anything for a good bowl of pho.

Ate lots of stuff I didn't ask about but never did the duck's blood soup or those duck eggs.

Seem to recall some mention of that stuff. Thought (hoped) somebody was pulling my leg. For sure didn't ever want to see any. NEVER wanted to see such. Thanks SOOooo much for the pics.
