just checkin' in!
Hey PatriotFiles.... not a lot of time... only a few minutes. But I will type fast. Not kicked out of OCS yet! Still trackin' the butter bar on the horizon. Aug 7 is the big day of graduation and commissioning. It will be a tough time getting there but the worst is supposedly behind me and so far no loss in pass time for performance or behavior... so I must be doing something right!
I STILL don't know what my first duty assignment is to be. But I do know that I am to be an 2LT in the corps of engineers. I am pretty excited about this. I have no idea what my training path will be other than Officer Basic Course for 17 weeks in MO... about 8 hours from home. I really appreciate all of you that have been writing to me by snail mail. If anyone else wants my address - ask around on this site and someone will PM it to you I am sure.... don't really want it posted on open forum. I know I have a few PM's in my box - but don't have the time to get at 'em.... stuck with the Pony Express for now! I hope everyone is in good spirits and good health! Can't wait to be back at the conversations on this site! BRAD - oh yeah: write me... I do my best to reply to every letter I get as my very restricted time permits! - B |

Ahhh, a shave tail in the making.
Hope all goes well for you. OBC should be a breeze for a young Engineer Officer.

Mules were used by the US Army from the mid-1830s up to 1956: from the Mexican War through World War II. They played a vital role in the supply of the troops. They carried guns to the battlefields, and ferried the wounded away.
The shavetails were the novices, who were identified by their shaved manes and tails. The bellsharps were the old hands, who knew to follow the mare with the bell. Just a way of recognizing the mule that was new, it transfered over to 2LTs for obvious reasons.

Airborne engineer? Done the second part. As to the first, where do you strap on the bulldozer and welder?
How much does a "first salute" cost now-a-days?

Half way through OCS and in the last few hours of my first weekend pass since leaving for basic on Valentine's Day!
Don't know what unit for sure... but I am to be stationed at Ft. Campbell after OBC. So I will definately be attending Air Assault School. I have a 5 week gap between OCS and OBC and am going to try and get into an Airborne School class between these times. I am also hoping to go to Pathfinder and Ranger schools at some point. I am not sure... but I think Sapper school is part of my OBC. Thanks All! |
