From my trivia file that does no one any good:

Maynard G. Krebs (or Krebbs?) was the beatnik character played by Bob Denver on the old TV program, "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis."

Bob Denver, who later played Gilligan, was actually accused of starting the beatnik movement, otherwise known as the Beatnik Generation.
