Question Navy camos?

http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp...3&nav=23iiS7JP

Navy Tests New Uniform in Hampton Roads

Sailors received a first look Monday at what could be their new working uniform.

Crew members onboard the USS Iwo Jima got a chance to see for themselves the camouflage some will soon be sporting.

With a catwalk, a commentator, and a discerning crowd, it was high fashion on the high seas.

Navy officials are considering replacing the working khaki's for chiefs and officers, the coveralls, and the standard blue shirt/blue pants ensemble with one uniform for everyone.

The new kind of camouflage is not really meant to keep sailors from being seen, but is more to keep stains from standing out.

The new design was a year-and-a-half in the making.

Officials believe they've found a uniform that can be thrown in the washer and worn, one that lasts longer, and one that screams "Navy."

The Navy will test the uniform over the next several months. Local ships and units involved in the test include:
  • USS Theodore Roosevelt
  • USS Iwo Jima
  • USS McFaul
  • Afloat Training Group
  • Amphibious Construction Battalion 2
  • Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron 25

The Navy is also planning a new service uniform that will replace the summer whites and winter blues. In the next couple of weeks they'll unveil an enlisted uniform with a khaki or grey shirt with black pants that can be worn year round.

Why the hell does the Navy need camos? To hide from sharks?!

Default Why?

Because the old uniform didn't last long enough (6 months) so the new one will hold up better (18 months).

They don't look dirty after the first time you get an unremovable spot on them. Even the work uniform looked bad after the first spot of grease that just wouldn't come out.

Two piece uniforms are easier to work in than one piece coveralls.

They look like hammered horse shit! (To quote my old Sr. Chief!)
Yuck, and yet another tradition will fade away, sailors in dungarees. Why in the hell do squids need cammo stuff for?
Yeah, HM's, CB's but that's about it.

Talking Everbodies Got Camo's

They are just trying to stay style with everyone else! Marines, Army, Airforce, and now the Navy. Ain't it great! HOWEVER, true camo's for the Navy would be Fluorocarbon wouldn't it. Invisible in water. That means the all the clothes would be made from woven strands of leader. But, that would mean see through garments. Oh Well, the guys would like it.

Man the good ole dungarees and blue chambry shirt with a command ball cap was just fine. However, I think that certain rates should wear camos, Seals, CB's and Master At Arms on shore duty.
