Default Pledge Poll

As you may have heard, a federal appeals court has ruled that the Pledge of Allegiance is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion and cannot be recited in public schools because it contains the phrase "under God." Do you agree or disagree with the court's decision that the Pledge is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion?

Default Exact Wording

"Article I: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The Pledge cannot by any sane mind be establishing a religion, all the while, the ruling by two asinine judges could be construed as an impediment of free speech.

Two things I would ask my brothers an sisters on this forum: bombard Sen. Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee to let the judges appointed by GWB have a hearing before his committee, so the full Senate can vote up or down.
The second thing is to believe in the system to the extent that more reasonable minds will prevail to eithe set aside this judicial foolishness, or to overturn it at the US Supreme Court level.

Why? God was good enough to be mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, "When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation..." and Iquote further: "... with a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."

It seems to me that if it was good enough for the likes of Madison, Jefferson, Monroe and others great legal minds, it ought to be good enough today. With all respect, that's the way it is, so get over it.

Constitutionality may be defined as the opinion of 9 old men or women at any given time. Whether an item is unconstitutional or not unfortunately does not rest in the words of the document but rather the interpretation of the document. Given the fact that the make up of the supreme court swings back and forth form liberal to conservative as a pendulum would than so does an items constitutionality.

Look at the installation of prohibition followed by its repeal. Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal. You put the right make up of a court in there and it could become illegal. In 1954 The words under God were inserted in the pledge. Nobody had a problem with it then. Now the PC have a problem with it. Did anybody ever stop to think about people who lead these groups? They lose control of themselves it seems very easily. We appease them becase they lose control and we don't want a mess on our hands. Doesn't anyone see a problem with these minority groups as loose cannon that actually control our every day lives.

Here is an example for you. At work, i was instructed to stop using the phrase ladies and gentlemen because apparently you women out there do not like to be called ladies any more.

Therefore if I address a group verbally that is composed of both sexes I am to call you all "guys". If it is a written memo, I am to use the phrase "To All." This kind of idiocy is controlling our lives. Doesn't anyone out there have a problem with this? Something tells me that reason will prevail and the pledge will be back.

My interpretation is that the Constitution condones rather than condemns religion in government. In other words it should be tolerated it with out judgment within some current culture guidelines.

Tamaroa, I agree that PC and another concept from the "Educrates" called Quality Systems are ridiculous and have corrupted among other things America's work ethic. One of the last tasks I had before retirement was to write a document containing instructions on how to write a document.

I'm not joking, that is part of the introduction process of one of the mindless quality systems called ISO 9000.

Pogo was right.....

Being an elderly (don't ask my age) female I resent the implications that I shall not be called a lady..... anyone who knows me will tell you that I think like a man (if there is such a thing as seperate thoughts)

When I was younger, lady was a compliment. Now it's a dirty word. Men can still be called Gentlemen.............

This PC thing has gone way too far. I believe in equal rights when it comes to jobs, pay etc....However, we "ladies" have it all over you "gentlemen" because without US there would be no YOU.........
