Military Bloodlines.

I thought about this last night after a "Navy Brat" discussion was started betwween me, David and Boats. Granted, I may be new, but this is one heck of a way for all of us to get to know a little bit more about each other. Why not give it a try? Like a family organizational record of your military service.

My family has been Navy 100% having served in many conflicts starting at the Civil War. The Byrd's and The Weeks'.

I am alone in this world of military personnell on my side of the family.

I am the only one that joined the military ( Navy)

I have brothers and sisters and two sons of my own who will most likely Never enter the land of discipline and pleasure.

I wish my youngest would join, he is only 23 now, but has a kid, my oldest is 25 and no kids, but a brand new wife of only one year.

My brothers and sisters are just like me, WAY TO DAMN OLD TO JOIN.

I may be one of a few that really enjoyed being in the Navy, and I have NO Regrets ( except for the OD while you are on watch in Boot saying "give me twenty" for not answering properly, and alot of times you did answer properly, but that to me is discipline. Not the bad way, just makes you a better pewrson.

Boy, am I straying off the subject.

Thomas, (sgt) Arrived at Jamestown in 1623 on the Bony Bess. There has been a Herndon in the service of our country ever since. The war of Northern Aggression found us on thesouthern side of the flag. My youngest son, Phillip,is an EOD agent currentlyserving with Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta (SFOD DELTA). He is the 15th generation to serve.

my grandfathers family came from the Erie Canal Area of New York State approx 1850 they moved to Michigan, he was from Orleans Country NY and they have approx 15 Bailey's buried there dating back to 1762 can't figure out the family tree though., it just shows some families go Navy some go Army others Marines, but it appears most follow family tradition.

I'm a second generation American - family from Germany. So, in the 2nd I had family on both sides of the front. When my Grandfather came from Germany they changed our name at Ellis from Unrhu to Deane. Thank the 1st for that.

My Great Gramps instilled in us our "family duty" to serve our military because the United States gave our family freedom when he left Germany. It's always been called our right of passage and a way to give because the US welcomed us in.
Some families are born to do certain things - ours is here to serve our military.

Got Bonesteels in military service in every era since the Colonial Army in 1720. The guy in 1720 was named was David Penenstiehl. Lots of other names, but I'm trying to track down the time between 1812 and the Civil War for my direct ancestors.( Records and such). I need more info on the calvary officer who served in Colorado before the Civil War. 26 Bonesteels served with the Union Army during the Civil War, none were known to serve with the Confederates. Had Bonesteels in every major conflict this country's seen. Unlike some families, there's only about four hundred Bonesteel families currently in the US. Some of the Bonesteel Tories moved to Canada in the late 1700's when the British were gettin' their butts kicked. Some of them moved back in the mid 1800's.Bonesteels are buried in Arlington and one is on The Wall in D.C.


Every branch of the service from Privates to at least one General ( USA).

In my direct line, my grandfather was either too old or too young or had too many kids. He had nine in the house at one point.

It doesn't look like my son is gonna join. His decision. In a direct lineage from 1720, my side of the family has skipped only one generation of service that I am currently aware of. Two, if the boy never joins up.

I'm still doin' the research.
