a sad day for my family
I got a call last night. My father passed away at about 10 PM. He would've been 91 in March. He was a WWII vet, Corporal, US Army Air Corps, he drove a truck during the war in North Africa from Morrocco to Palestine, Sicily, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was almost killed several times when columns were strafed, he was shot at by a sniper while taking a dump in France, and manned a .50 cal when a waist gunner was hit during a bombing run over Italy (he was taking a "joy" ride and snapping photos). His first stop when he was discharged was to take a train to Montreal and visit a "house" on St. Catherine's street. He never considered himself a hero and never really talked much about the war, except for the humorous incidents. It wasn't until the last year or so that he told me about the times he almost was killed.
He was a kind, generous, and loving father. I'll miss him very much.

Dan - 91 is a good age and a full life. I'm sorry to hear of your Dad's passing and I can only wish you the very best during this time. I'll be thinking of you and your family.
