Dean says brother's remains found in Laos

BEDFORD, N.H. -- Every day on the campaign trail, Howard Dean wears an
unfashionable black belt that belonged to his younger brother Charlie,
a silent memorial to the man who vanished while traveling the Mekong
River 29 years ago.

On Tuesday, Dean announced that a U.S. military search team had found
his brother's remains buried in a rice paddy in Laos.

"We greet this news with mixed emotions, but we are gratified we are
now approaching closure," Dean said.

The Pentagon won't make an official identification until after the
remains are flown next week to a laboratory in Hawaii, but personal
items--shoes, a sock and a POW/MIA bracelet similar to those worn by
Dean's brother--strongly suggest the crude grave was his.
