"trouble Errupting"
?TROUBLE ERRUPTING?
I once heard a story about the Panama Canal that related how, had it not been for a postage stamp, the Canal might have been built elsewhere (Nicaragua I think)? It seems that the Central American country that had originally been slated for the ditch (Canal) had turned out a postage stamp some years earlier that depicted a smoldering volcano proudly rising above it?s majestic countryside. Fearing that a volcano, and the danger of seismic activity around it, might cause severe damage to the Canal, the construction project was moved elsewhere, into what is now the nation of Panama! History does indeed have a strange way of repeating itself, as a news piece this morning pointed out! It seems that the proposed ?Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Dump Site?, not far from Las Vegas, also is siting dangerously near an active volcanic region! Taking a cue from our neighbors in Central America, the locals near Yucca Mountain too, are pointing out the potential danger of locating this ?Radioactive Puke Depository? in the region! It seems to me, that it wasn?t all that long ago that South Caroline, like Nevada, was embroiled in a similar dilemma, when the Feds opted to trash the Palmetto State (SC) by gifting it with plutonium from other areas! A ?Love/Hate Relationship? has always existed with the nuclear genie since that time when mankind first split the atom. And it will probably continue on until the day when the atomic beast eventually (and terminally) turns on it?s creator. Like all good things, even atomic energy can obliterate you in a heartbeat, if you are not extremely careful! Take for instance, those brave kids in uniform back in the late ?40s and early ?50s! Those troopers who were ordered up to near ground zero to take part in atomic testing. Or those soldiers who were commanded into the craters produced by these nuclear explosions shortly after detonation, even though the area was hotter than an exploding firecracker! There will always be those who just have to see the fatal dangers posed to the human body by intense radiation, as well as caustic chemical and biological agents. Just as long as it isn?t their useless carcasses that are getting scoured to the core that is! And as if this were not sad enough, these (now elderly) kids with the glowing (literally) personalities (Our Atomic Veterans), are now being virtually ignored and abandoned by those in whom they placed their absolute trust and lives! Nothing new here, as the DoD has been doing this sort of thing for decades, aided and abetted, I might add, by a few in government and those within the VA who habitually deny everything! Especially atrocities orchestrated by their ?Umbilical Cohorts? with the flowing purse strings. ?Beware of (some of) those bureaucrats who call themselves friend, and then promptly roll over when some fat cat in power flashes a roll of tax-generated greenbacks!? VERITAS
