Default Beautiful music

My granddaughter said the best definition of beautiful music yesterday: "That music was so beautiful it stopped me from thinking."

Default Fred,...

...

...The appreciation of music comes from the mind of a child,... an innocent one,...

...Up here we have the Troy Music hall, and it is said to be one of the most perfect acoustical halls in the world, the sound is brilliant, the proverbial "pin drop", spent my childhood there with various school functions,...

...Go to "www.troymusichall.org", and take the tour,...

...There is a video clip that runs, and guess who the last artist is???,....

Curtis,

You are truly blessed to have had such a genuine musical treasure in your early life. I am envious.

I did, in going back through my CD collection, get to enjoy vicariously the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. Don't remember the group's name that recorded there, but the disc is entitled "The Art of the Bawdy Song". Acoustic ensemble playing British tavern songs. A joyful noise, indeed.

Doc,

Just curious: What were you playing at the time?

This is a cute story that fits with this thread.

When the house lights dimmed and the concert
was about to begin, the mother returned to
her seat and discovered that the child was missing.
Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights
focused on the impressive Steinway piano on stage.

In horror, the mother saw her little
boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out
"Twinkle,Twinkle Little Star."

At that moment, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano, and
whispered in the boy's ear,
"Don't quit.""Keep playing."

Then, leaning over, Paderewski reached
down with his left hand and began filling
in a bass part. Soon his right arm reached
around to the other side of the child,
and he added a running obbligato.

Together, the old master and the young novice
transformed what could have been an embarrassing situation into a wonderfully creative experience.

The audience was so mesmerized that they couldn't recall what else the great master played.
Only the classic,
" Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."
Perhaps that's the way it is with God.
What we can accomplish on
our own is hardly noteworthy.
We try our best, but the results aren't always
graceful flowing music. However, with the
hand of the Master, our life's
work can truly be beautiful.

The next time you set out to accomplish great feats,
listen carefully. You may hear the voice of the
Master, whispering in your ear,
"Don't quit." "Keep playing."

Remember, God doesn't seem to
call the equipped, rather, He equips the 'called.'

May God bless you and be with you always!

The song was from Ladysmith Black Mambazo's Long Walk to Freedom album. It wasRain Rain Rain Beautiful Rain and had Natalie Merchant singing in it also. I would download it and let you play it but right after I played it for Beth, I tried to put it back in the CD player in my car and missed. It fell down somewhere inside the console. Sad because it made me stop thinking too.

Interestingly enough, Ladysmith Black Mambazo recently played at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

They are fantastic. I remember them mostly from Paul Simon's "Graceland" album.

Looks like I'll be going to the music store this afternoon. Thanks!!!
