Default Any Book Recommendations

I have been reading some good old fashioned murder, mayhem and such
lately and re-reading all my Travis McGee favorites.

Anyone got any book recommendations? I am not real interested in non
fiction at the moment.

Yeah. I hear you. I been reading all the Robert Ludlum, Dean Koontz, Clive
Cussler, Robin Cook, etc. books I can get my hands on. Since I have some 60
cubic feet of books on my shelves they aren't hard to lay a hand on. But
just in case, every time I go to the VA I visit the donated book racks and
grab another armful of books I haven't read yet and drop off a boxful or
two.

Cussler is my all time favorite, but Jon Cleary is right up with the
superstars too. You ever read any Joseph Heywood or Dan Mahoney? Just
ran across them and now working my way through the series.

For some really old, old fashioned murder and mayhem I rely on
the late Louis L'Amour and I satisfy my relentless appetite for
non-fiction history with the historical nuances that are threaded
through his novels.

For really graphic, fast reading with gratuitous violence to make
you barf, try The Executioner and Stonyman series.

I get Louis L'Amour paperbacks and the others at used book stores.
Great for reading myself to sleep!

My Louis L'Amour list here:
http://vikingphoenix.com/public/rong...oks/lamour.htm

For futuristic murder and mayhem, I recommend the recently published
Dune prequels, four books written by Brian Herbert (Ray Herbert's son).
Dune prequel titles are House Harkonnen, House Atreides, House Corrino,
and The Butlerian Jihad.

These recent Dune titles are probably now found in good numbers in
used book stores.

Two more recommendations:
Try to find "The Chinese Bandit" by Stephen Becker, a story about
Jake Dodds, in the summer of 1947, is a U.S. Marine deserter that
finds a new life as a Chinese bandit.
"Khmer Gold" - forgot author, adventure, murder, mayhem, intrigue.

When all else fails, I dig out the complete works of Sherlock
Holmes about every ten years and start to read through it again.

Non-fiction wears me out. I'm always jumping up to make a
note or check a reference, or grapple with the information,
and that's why I am suffering literary fatigue at this
moment - I tuck myself in each night with Churchill's "Their Finest
Hour".

Fiction is relaxing, escapist.

Donated book racks at VA, hmmmh. Sounds like a worthwhile project,
I'll check on that.

I pick up a lot of used books at local libraries, they resell donations
at about 0.25-0.50 for paperback, 1.00 for hard.

Try 'Once an Eagle', Anton Myrer. It's an interesting look at leadership
and the minds of officers.

I know all I want to know about Officers and Leadership. I am more
interested in mindless violence and the lads who catch them now.

Speaking of which..... There is a very small book, paperback and
published by the Sons of Norway or some such about a small group of
men during WWII who sabataged the heavy water program. Have you by
chance ever come across it. It is a very, very interesting story.

Patrick
I think I saw a documentary about that on Discovery or History Channel last
year. Showed the guys taking off on skis through some pretty tuff terrain.
Heck of a story.
Hey, hows everybody doing? Fine I'm hopin'!
