Post The Rest of the Story - Baby Ruth

The Curtis Candy says: The bar was named after "Baby Ruth Cleveland".
However, the Babe was a well know baseball player at that time.

The Bar wasn't called Babe Ruth but Baby Ruth a slight but important difference.

The Curtis Candy folks knew that there would be an instant name identification by using the name Baby Ruth but didn't want to pay any endorsement fees or royalities to the "Babe" so they came up with this story about "Baby Ruth". So . . .. . . . .

Officially they still claim to this day that the bar was named after President Cleveland's little baby girl, however the truth is they probably chose a name close to the baseball great's name so they could benefit financially, but no one is telling. So, take your choice, but the urban league is probably correct.

Keith,

Hadn't thought about that!

If they named the candy bar Babe Ruth he'd been a-gettin' change for every chocolatey chomp.

Also, the candy bar hit the scene in 1921. Wasn't that about the time the Babe was gettin' real famous?

Good point!

Post Ain't it SWEET, Capitolism.

An example of Sweet Capitolism.

17 years after the President's Daughter's death. That's a long time to wait for a tribute. Also The Babe was just in his prime.
In 1920 He hit 54 home runs, in 1921 he hit 59 home runs. He was in his prime. Curtis candy knew what they were doing and they got away with it.
