Question Looking for suggestions

I've learned somethings from you guys about homecomings.
Someone posted a note about how he didn't get that special welcome home (that he deserved in MY book!), but recently he invited a kid he didn't even know to a steak dinner or lunch when he returned from Iraq and how much that meant to both of them.

I've a coworker that has a son who left for Iraq this morning. He volunteered to leave his "paper pushing" reserve job to go and drive escort for the supply caravans. He'll be driving a Hummer right through some very tough situations, Im sure.

I told her to email his address to me so I could send him things from home and just some little notes, newpaper clippings, and postcards.
Any other suggestions from you all would be helpful. Please keep in mind that he is going into an Arab country and no playboy or alcohol is permitted.

I also asked her to let me know when he is due home and I will be there with her to welcome him home. He needs to know how much we care. The same as each of you should have been shown.

A soldier is a trained fighting machine to the military. To us that same soldier is family and friend. And is loved and greatly missed.

Thank you Gentlemen.

This is a tough one. I'll have to go back 35 years to remember. Find out what he liked to eat. then find individual size cans of that item. It had to be cans because we used our truck engines to heat the food......Candy and gum, any type of quick snack. Running convoys can be long and tedious and many times, due to the area we had to just keep moving

Middle East alcohol...if anyone needs to get some firewater to the middle east, just PM me and I will explain it. I have a fool proof method that i used for almost a year while I was there and have been using during this deployment to aid friends "in need"

Catman,
I'll take the cuppa Joe instead.

I'm not big on medals.
I just want to thank this kid for the freedom to express my thanks.

Local newspaper subscriptions are normally sent to APO's, delivered just days after publication and I loved to get mine. Helped me know that there really was a REAL WORLD out there.

Yup... just a little mail, with my own name on it, hometown Sunday newspaper was nice once... (South Bend Tribune )

And, if someone could arrange it, to NOT get the "Dear John" whilst a person is still in Basic or under fire someplace (This being a special message to the ladies who might be or have been involved, so as to suggest a better sense of timing.)
