Seven Americans Killed In Taliban Attacks, Two US Captives Embrace Islam
Apr 14, 2004
By Zafir Jamaal, JUS

In Afghanistan, Taliban attacks resulted in deaths of a total of seven American soldiers and many more Afghan soldiers as the fighting continues to escalate. Many others are reported wounded and a report has been received that two US soldiers have embraced Islam.

An American convoy in Zabul was attacked by Taliban Mujahideen near Shah Joi. Two American soldiers were killed and others were wounded. After the attack American planes started bombing the area. No other reports are yet available.

In Paktia, a land mine explosion has killed two and wounded three Afghan soldiers. Following the incident, the American?s launched an air patrol to search for the Taliban who planted the landmine. Meanwhile at different check posts in Khost and Paktia, attacks killed one and wounded four afghan soldiers.

In Khost, Taliban used automatic rifles to attack different convoys of Coalition forces. Four vehicles were destroyed in the attacks. Two unmanned drones were also reported downed in Khost. These planes were downed when the American ambassador to Afghanistan was visiting the area. Also in Khost, a soldier told Pakistan?s Daily Ausaf on the condition of anonymity that two US soldiers embraced Islam. They both have started to show their support for Taliban and other Islamic scholars and have started to learn more about Islam. Alhamdulilah!

In an incident 50 km from Barmal in the town of Sharongi, Taliban and Coalition forces engaged in battle on Friday. Eye witnesses said that the Coalition forces were coming from Barmal when a loud explosion illuminated the area, and suddenly the sound of rockets and gunfire was heard. The firing lasted for an hour and a half. Eye witnesses report thirteen Afghan and Coalition forces killed. Many Taliban were also martyred. Seventeen afghan civilians were killed by B-52 bombing runs. It is reported that Taliban are planning a massive strike in Barmal and these clashes are just to get the fighters experienced in combat. The attack began when a land mine exploded and damaged up to seven vehicles in the convoy.

Meanwhile the old and new airport of Khost were attacked with missiles and rockets. According to reports just in, three American and four ANA soldiers were killed while five were wounded. Two army vehicles were also destroyed. The attacks lasted throughout Friday night and the sound could be heard in the entire area. The old airport is under Afghan army control while Americans control the new airport. Americans began transferring their helicopters and planes to other airports to protect them as close air support is the only advantage the Americans have against Taliban following the attacks

A large cache of arms was confiscated in Yaqobi village and was being transferred when Taliban used a landmine to blow up the convoy, killing three Americans and two Afghan soldiers. (JUS)
