[VeteranIssues] WHITE HOUSE REBUFFED VA'S PLEAS
:cd: From: ColonelDan ColonelDan@worldnet.att.net
Subject: [VeteranIssues] WHITE HOUSE REBUFFED VA'S PLEAS FOR MORE MONEY, PRINCIPI TESTIFIES From: "Congressional Quarterly" WHITE HOUSE REBUFFED VA'S PLEAS FOR MORE MONEY, PRINCIPI TESTIFIES The Department of Veterans Affairs received $1.2 billion less than it requested from the White House when President Bush's fiscal 2005 budget was assembled, Secretary Anthony J. Principi told lawmakers today. The revelation during the House Veterans' Affairs Committee's first hearing on the budget bolstered the view of many legislators that Bush underfunded veterans' programs in his budget. "Congress will have to add funds in the budget," said committee Chairman Christopher H. Smith, R-N.J. "Something we have done in four of the past five years." The budget seeks $29.7 billion in discretionary spending for the VA, but that includes $2.4 billion to be raised largely through charging some veterans a $250 fee the first time they use VA medical care and increasing co-payments for prescription drugs. Congress rejected similar proposals last year. "I can't believe the administration would come back and battle again on these co-payments after we said we're not going to do it," said Rep. Ciro D. Rodriguez, D-Texas. My folks were married so I can't relate to this SH*T ReGuldernmark's The crabAPPLE Travis |

Here's why I have doubts... there has not been, is not now and never will be ANY American President (or other elected or appointed member of this government) who does not clearly understand that it is solely by choice that ANY^ military unit sustains its loyalty.
Military overthrows, coups (if you will), are commonplace throughout ALl of recorded history. Never think for a moment that it could never happen in America, because it damn well could if the conditions were exactly right. Dubya, I assure you, knows this simple fact. |

All "Little Georgie" has to do is divert some of that $87B earmarked for that sand flea country, the VA problems would be over for quite a while. But we wouldn't want to piss off our enemies, would we?

Dan -
So far as I recall, it weren't $87B for the sand ppile, more like $20B... which, in any event, is a WHOLE lotta greenbacks. Besides, if'n we could get the Congress to quit stuffin' their shirts back home long enough to remember THE promises... then maybe things would work out better, eh? |

Dan,
I think it is only a matter of time before we all realize that when the politicians want a raise, they vote it in, no one bitches about that. Then when they get out of office, we pay for their ignorant seminars at some local gathering place. The real reason they show up to speak is for the money and to laugh at all those that voted them in and believed they were DIFFERENT. I feel that no matter what the Bull$hit is that we hear that until we see a paper signed by someone with the authority, we should hold the line on the promises made to all military members and create a force to get the promises to become reality. That funny little fellar with big ears that ran for President a few years back that spoke of "The Sucking Sound", was right. God Bless the Troops and Us Hopefully one day the American People will beleive in what we all did and force the leaders to backup their words. USN Retired but Not Forgettin !!! Adrian

Good post.
Looks like the same old SOP for this administration. I just can NOT understand :cd: how ANY military veteran with a clear conscious could see fit to vote for a man who has broken nearly every single promise he made to veterans during his previous campaign? He and his party leadership have done more to undermine, underfund and UNDO the gains we as retired & disabled veterans have achieved over the years past than ANY OTHER President in MODERN HISTORY!

sure GW
does anyone else remember how much Jr. went out of his way to meet with veterans and made speech after speech about how long the VA had performed inadequately in assisting the veteran and their families as this country promised and law dictates?
must've been another case of bad intelligence !!...
