Mending Fences

Was it not Robert Frost [1874-1963] who said that: ?Good fences make for good neighbors?? Well, not many fences are as admired as the ones in ?Bob Frost?s Fence Analogy!?

Although needed, many fences are naught but an often bloody state of mind. Granted fences [walls], like those constructed by the Soviets during the ?Cold [?] War? were meant to keep people in, but let?s face it, most fences are built to keep people the hell out! [How?s that for cynical]?

There are, of course, many other fences [real and imaginary] that have been constructed to bar the passage of humanity, thoughts, ideas, illegal activity, ideologies and even truth in some cases! Among these were the famous ?Mason Dixon Line? [a fence of sorts], the ?International Border?, the gosimer fence that often exists between conflicting religions, and of course, that fence that divides politics from common sense! And this barrier can be a real bitch, as was obvious from the ?Memorial Turned Political Carnival?, that took place during the Paul Wellstone services!

Again, a fence can be a tiny structure or a monumental undertaking, depending upon need or intent. Some fences are not even visually perceivable, as is the case with those that divide political troughs! The fare [swill] available within these bi-partisan troughs, however, is sometimes not all that different, when you come to think of it!? It is often a vested mixture or dregs, champagne and lies, and no matter what side one approaches this trough from [Right or Left], the odor almost always gives it away!

?As for the real purpose of these fences, well that all depends?? If the fences are of a democratic nature, sometimes they are unavoidable! And if these fences were intended to act as a security moat, one intended to ?Keep Good Neighbors Good?, then hell, why not? ?Do we have a fence around the United Nations - not yet you say?!?

Well, being a true Westerner, one prone to stubbornly running his mouth, and one who believes that ?Three Strikes Don?t Always Make An Out?, my battle cry is ?Don?t Even Try To Fence Me In!?

And as far as three strikes [again], is it not a fact that we often tend to elect the lesser of evils to political office? Hell, we have been doing this for decades at all levels of the political coliseum, and we ain?t got it down pat yet! ?So count ?em up - how many strikes does that make, and we are still in there swinging!? And that is what a democracy is all about, is it not!?

Your posting (meant to be humerous) is right on as usual. Turning the cheek to allow one another kick in the ass or a slap in the face seems to be part of the diplomatic hand shake.

It's tough to believe in anyone lately. But our system is still the best and for now the only one going. It has some problem areas and it may not be the pancea we all want but its still better than the majority.

Fence mending is an old tradition. As long as the fence being worked on is repaired and not just treated is the real issue at hand.

You're comments are very truthful and from the heart. It has to be difficult when you can see the issues and others can not.
