Harley Davidson was world motocross champion in the 70's more than once. They were one of the pioneers in long travel suspension. All their racers were one off specials and the things they sold to the public were sub par.

I used to race motocross in the 70s and The Honda Elsinore was the bike to beat, I raced a 250 Harley sprint 4stoke one year, way to slow then went to Kawasaki, Bad to the bone. Harleys may have done ok in scrambles or road races but not in Motocross
Brad Lackey Rode for Kawasaki then and nobody could touch him, Yamaha got Bob "hurricane" Hannah in late 70s and he was a force to be recoded with, Kawasaki got the rights to him late 70s or early 80s. The only guy I ever hear of racing a Harley 2 stroke was Rex Staten , The Bike wasn't even made until 77 and Rex managed to put it on the podium one time, Harley Motocross team ended in 78, The factory bike had good power but weighed more than the jap bikes, The Can Am was the most powerful but cost about 4times as much as anyone Else's bike.
Anyone that road a factory bike had what they called a "works" bike, basicly a "One off" bike. I got a Jeff Ward 'works' bike in the 80's I was to big and fat by then, all those guys I raced against weighed 140 wet I was around 190.
Harley's try at motocross was at best a failure.
Looked nice though.

Default LT has an extra harley,

used to be mine then sold it to john, we rebuilt it from a harley of questionable origin in a S&M Dungeon under the supervision of a biker named Dutch who was also the dungeon master. Yes its true we don't have enough imagination to dream this stuff up. Its a 79 1ooocc XLCH Sportster. QUICK and loud. I am sure LT would part with it to another Psyco Vet since he has Franks bike.

Default This is my chopper

Also has some parts from harley of questionable background. Well it technically is still my chopper. Phillip "borrowed it about 3 years ago" Pretty fast bike. I now have a GEEZER glide but it is a Kawasaki Vulcan Cruiser. 1500 cc with shaft drive and water cooled Vtwin.
