Post I've got jury duty this week!

Haven't served on a jury for about twenty years. Anyway, I'll keep you informed. Probably won't serve but I have to make myself available this week.

Any jury duty stories out there?

Keith

Talking

Have been called several times but never have been chosen for a jury. Last time made it to individual questions between both lawyers and the jury pool. Asked me what I did in VietNam and I told him we basically tracked people down and killed them. A gasp rose from the juey pool and they asked me to sit down. I was not picked

Talking Illusions of Grandeur

I just knew I'd get on a famous trial. I'd be watched on Court TV.
Interviewed by Barbara Walters on National TV. Write a book. Get RICH!
But, Alas, Poor me! My bubble was burst by the words.
"Thank you Mr. Hixson for volunteering for jury duty, but their are no trials scheduled for this week." I'm hurt and devastated! I need some moral support from my friends.

I served on the County Grand Jury last year and it was a year?s tour of duty. Mostly we gave the County offices a ?well baby check? and got in the usual biffs with the County Fire Department and the Sheriffs Office. All eleven fire houses flunked our inspection tour as they insist on having booze on County premises. That?s supposedly a no-no as the County tort liability provisions forbid such things. But here in the land of cowboys and hayseeds, the VFD Lads tend to make up their own rules. The Sheriffs Jail didn?t do so well either. I asked to observe their fire drill and evacuation procedure and right out of the starting blocks the jailer-deputy put the Scots Air Pack on upside down, man-oh-man, what an ordeal.

During our time we had two high profile suicides in the Jail. One was the grandson of a retired district judge and the other was a pedophile that allegedly raped and killed a little girl. He was on trial and evidently didn?t want to see it through. So we got to look into jail procedures for handling high-risk inmates. Easy answer as there wasn?t any procedure. The mix of the Grand Jury was rather interesting and included people from different backgrounds with no two backgrounds alike. The Jury Foreman is a retired Sheriffs Commander from LA and she ran a tough ship I?ll tell ya, yikes!!!!! I was tagged to run the group looking into the Sheriffs Office, Jail, Fire Houses and County Airport operations. The airport deal was the funniest of all. They had printed up a come on brochure but neglected to inform the reader that we have a runway weight limit and a very stiff fine if someone lands and is over the limit. Something like a Pieper Apache twin is about as big as is allowed except for the Forrest Service borate bombers and those are C-130s.

Oh the life and times of Jury duty and one year is a bit much and getting a consensus of decision and majority vote was absolutely the pits as some people just see things differently I reckon. And then the contingent from South Lake Tahoe were all intense Conservatives and the contingent form North Valley are intense Liberals so I assure ya, things got real lively from time-to-time. That group had the Schools, Parks, Library and highway department and I doubt they agreed on anything for the whole year. Oh well, we got our report done on time and they were still arguing and fussing over whatever.
