3 nautical miles =
1 knot =
10 chains =
1 statute mile =
1 nautical mile =
60 nautical miles = 1 degree of a great circle of earth (latitude)

A fathom is six feet.

I dunno what a cable is.

If you travel 1 nautical mile in one hour, your speed is 1 knot.

Interesting subject is the Mariana Trench.

And there are some pretty god-awful lookin' critters that live in the abyssal depths of the oceans.

This is where nitro fish racing got there logo.
I asked the driver about it when they were campaining a Ford Probe.

A few years ago ( 10 or so) two guys went down to the bottom of the Mariona trench (36,201 feet) in a sub. As it touched the bottom and it made a distinctive "thud" all they could say was wow.
I would 'NOT' do that.
