And, based on the stories passed down in my family, the story is true.

It is a great story, but I checked it out at snopes.com. I had heard it before with a different twist, so it just didn't look right.

Harrington Historical Society.

Nicy Fleming is the daughter of Beniah Fleming, born 10 Jan 1762,
and Elizabeth Turner, born 11 Dec 1765 and married about 1782.
Beniah is the son of William Fleming, born 1717, and Jean Frame,
born 1726, and married in 1745. William with his three brothers,
Robert, Archibald and John, driven from Scotland to the North of
Ireland by religious persecution emigrated to America in the early
Eighteenth Century [1739) and took up lands under William Penn in
1741, now known as Mispillion Hundred, Kent
Co, Delaware.
William Fleming, who immigrated to the this country in 1739,
applied tothe land office and received a grant for four hundred
acres called "William's Choice". This land is west of and includes
the present town of Farmington (History of Delaware 1609-1888, vol
II, Part 2, page 1172 J. Thomas Scharf). In 1758 John Tharp was
granted 250 acres on the north side of William Fleming's land. In
1803 John's grandson, James Tharp, married William Flemings
granddaughter Nicy.
Beniah and Elizabeth Fleming, Nicy's father and mother are buried
on William's Choice. The Fleming Family Plot on William's Choice
is near Farmington, 1250 feet from the east side of US Rt 13 and
750 feet south of junction with Rt 61. A pipe railing fence with
concrete posts encloses the 50 foot by 60 foot plot.

Phuloi,
I'll have to do some checking and see if any of these names show up. I know that my ancestors migrated from Scotland to Ireland and to the US (via Canada). The family split up after coming into the US, with some staying the north and eastern parts and others moving down into Louisianna and Texas.
My Great Aunt Bea (who died at the age of 99 years and 10 months) used to tell us kids about her journey from Tennesse to Louisianna and then into Texas via horse-drawn wagon.
My great garndfather Harley was an Indian agent in Oklahoma and married a Coushata (sp) indian after my great grandmother died of typhoid. He became more indian than white man (so I'm told) and an outcast from the family after that.
I've looked up a few members of the existiong Fleming clan in Scotland over the years. I used to travel there on business at least once a year. There's a clan living in the Glasscow area and another a little further south. If you're ever over there, just walk around wearing a piece of clothing with the family / clan tartar (colors) and you'll soon be greeted by a fellow Fleming.
I'll let you know what I turn up after checking the names and dates you've provided. Who knows, maybe we're cousins 4 or 5 times removed ! ;-)

Default HOOKIN UP COUSINS...

...didn't realize that this thread would spark two possible cousins to find the long lost other one...

...never know what pops up here...

..."OK", one of you "dig" up how far "Giles" goes back for me, My father said we had "folks" here at "Whitehall, NY.", and they ended up coming from Scotland, but the family Bible was lost way back when, There are over 500 William Giles' nationwide,... somebody musta been busy...

...Said one of my "folks" married a "Guiness" way back, and she was "blacksheeped" away from the family after that, "not to hard to figure that one out, huh"...

...My in laws are the "Bender" clan, they went back several years ago to visit, and met the rest of them cousin's, and Uncles, and such...

...No kissin' when you find out.........
