Going in April
One of our daughters is geting married in DC, and I'm using that as an excuse to go the The Wall for my first visit. Been advised not to go alone, as the invariable sandstorm will occur anyway, and it's best to have a friendly shoulder nearby! My beautiful soul mate will be there to support me!!

You know, Bill
I have stood right there as have thousands of Vietnam vets. It is just another of the many ties we have to one another. There is such a magical power emanating from those slabs of granite. Sad, very sad but more than that. Those guys and gals are talking to us. The love flows both ways like some kind of gentle magic.

DOC FRED
Wassup? I know of 2 posts that you've added to this thread today, and I've yet to be able to see either one of them. Any ideas why? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Get this... Lady Carol discovered it would cost us $800 round trip air to get to The Wall from here, but that it's only a 10 hour drive each way, which we can do for about a third of that!
10 hours ain't snot to a former Californian! |

The "Wall" is the perfect memorial. A great way to respect those brothers that gave their last full measure.

Dunno
I've been looking for several of mine. I thought I just forgot where they were.

My first visit was in 1982 to see Pete and Richie. Pete was Air Force KIA at Can Tho, Richie was Army Signal KIA at Dak To. When Richie was killed, I was doing the QL19 run from Phu Tai to Pleiku. No one told me about Richie until I got home. Pete was killed during TET II a year after I got home. I had to go and say good bye, but strangely I was emotionless. I read about 'survivor guilt' and knew I had to talk with Lee and Ed, and Helen and Fred. They told me it was OK and I felt better. The next time I went back, I was still void of feeling but I was able to talk to Pete and tell him I talked with his mom and dad and that I missed those apple pies she let cool on her kitchen window sill and how you and I 'helped ourselves' while we played in your backyard. I went over to Richie and said I was sorry this was so awkward for me. I told him Karen died and that I think she still loved you Richie. I said to him it was very hard to bury my sister so young. I left tearless saying I would be back. I will someday and hopefully this ache will go away.
