For almost two years.....in the field - did not know what a cold one was - "33" taste like piss smelled when hot- guess thats the reason we called it "Tiger Piss". Ballentine and Crown (Korean ) were almost as bad.......Why I liked Beam so much.....then.

Not sure about you guys, if you ever had the chance or not since coming home, but just the smell of Foster's will start a pretty good case of dry heaves with me!

Now, give me some Micholob or Jim Beam and I will be just fine!

BTW, why has the Saloon been closed lately? Gotta get that guys Harley out of the pool before the ice sets in!

Black label was pretty much it for us too. If I remember right, part of the big NCO Club Scandal, which broke in 1969, and took down the then Sgt. Major of the Army involved kickbacks paid by the brewers to supply beer in Vietnam. I know Black Label wouldn't be the choice of a majority, not even a top ten finisher.

Cal, we just called "33" ba moui ba ["33" in V'namese]. The one we called "Tiger Piss" was the stuff in the tall, clear bottles with the tiger on it [La Rue?]. If you were getting Ballantine, or anything else besides Black Label in rusty cans, out in the field alot, you were living LARGE. We'd get an occasional Pabst, Shlitz, or Ballantine once in a great while and, no matter what it was it was ALWAYS hot. We also got a couple sodas with the beer ration.

Homie,

It?s a Virgin Mary Miraculous Medal given to me by my girlfriend Donna before I left for Vietnam. Funny story though. Donna picked up with Jody and when we were at Eagle Beach for the stand down after Hamburger Hill, I lost it swimming in the South China Sea. That day I lost it was the day I received my last letter from her. Spooky huh?
