I didn't where else to put this. but since I thought it should interest more than Coasties since we are all brother veterans, I put it where most folks would read it.
It has been quite some time since I visited the town hall. I had business to attend to and noticed a few new small monuments in the courtyard before the building. They had a separate monument for Korea and Viet Nam for the town residents. those monuments had crossed county and American flags on them. The World War II monument had the seals of 4 services on them. Yep, you guessed it once more the Coast Gaurd was left out. We are not only the smallest service 36,000, but we are also the Military service that rotates between departments. Homeland Security in time of peace and Defense in time of war or at the President's direction. Title 15 of the U.S. code defines us as a military service of the United States.
In addition, both in WWI and WWII, the Coast Guard suffered the most deaths and woundings of all the services percentage wise because as small as we were we were still put in the front manning the escort craft and landing craft that brought the army and Marines to the beaches.
Well to make a long story short, I was furious and once my business was concluded demanded to see the Town Supervisor who of course was too busy to see me over such a mundane matter. So I asked for his business card and will write him a scathing letter today.
