Hi Keith
I expect you WA. guys to drink coffee all day but what happened to the other guys?

Been fishing lately. It's so unseasonably warm here that the ice fishing is not too hot. It's supposed to be 50 degrees here tomorrow. MN in Jan. 50? Must be El Nino.

Sorry, I can't contribute to the football conversation... a sad excuse of a soldier this weekend... I watched no games. But, I am a Nebraskan and can ALWAYS talk about the weather. January 4th.... it rained or drizzeled nearly all day long! We still haven't had a real snow! But I suppose we'll take the moisture any way we can get it.

http://www.ghosts.org/hummelpark.html

I was looking for a trail map online at a park I like to run at - and stumbled on the above site. I've only been in Omaha for about a year and a half and my counterpart at work just spent about an hour enlightening me on the legends of Hummel Park. Lots and lots of things that are HOPEFULLY false... but some that are. Some of the true ones: The lynchings/hate crimes are true, and sadly not specific to the park but the whole city. Omaha was considered one of the worst cities for this. We spent the entire semester in my nationality/race relations class in discussion of Omaha. The park is also a very popular site for disalusioned teens to end their lives. The police department and Game and Parks has to respond to calls several times a year of mutilated animals that have been 'turned inside out' - these are not prank calls.

The only things I've experienced there is that on occasion I notice quick changes in temperature - I've attributed this to the park being next to a large river, that it's a very dense wood, and that it is in the bluffs. I've also twice seen what was described as a stanic altar in the article. At the time I though it was just some artist (the artist community of downtown Omaha is only about a mile away) finding some creative outlet. I still think it was an art project. But I've never seen any Ghost Car and I know the trees grow toward the road because they can get sun there. I've ran up and down the stairs, but never counted them (I will next time) and I've also done some time running/climbing the 'Devil's Slide,' rolled an ankle at the bottom once, but didn't sprain it, and I did cut my hand on a tree while pulling myself up the slope - but these were a given, eventually, considering the terrain.

I've never been in the park at night on account of it being in the middle of Omaha's gang neighborhoods.

That's my story for today.

Post Amazing Comebacks

Amazing Comebacks in the playoffs this year.

What happened to the Packers. Three weeks ago the Seahawks beat up on the Falcons in Atlanta. I thought it would be the Packers by two or three touchdowns. The cheeseheads had better get things turned around over the spring and summer.

Anybody around the Saloon now? Mae is back. I can't drink anything, but could probably open up an artery and share some of the morphine! Anyway, it's good to be home....and I'm buying!
