I don't know.
In 3 years of 24/7 driving around tanks and in between tanks, plus with plenty of black-out convoy driving through forest trails at night amongst tanks,...I never saw such a thing.
Must be A Marine thing?  Maybe because the second tank was apparently running with his gun to the rear,...the driver thought that he too should be facing rearward? Hey, you never know. Besides, not everyone can graduate at the top of the Tank Driving Class.  Neil
