A good St. James Norton, circa 1996-1997 vintage. Liquid gold!
Missouri wines are a well-kept secret.

None of ya'll are Texans, so I don't really expect you to take your steaks seriously, but the question begs to be asked; are you eating steak or drinking? A good steak should be savored with only a cool glass of water..... and none of that goopy sauce. Steak sauce is what you use to cover up a poorly prepared steak badly in need of a christian burial. Mmmmm mmm my mouth is watering now. Somebody fire up the grill.

I spent my last 5 months in the Army at Ft. Hood in early 1971. The Army, in all its wisdom, had decided that beer and wine in the barracks was OK. Every kind of cheap wine you can imagine was there. Some of the worst headaches I ever had were because of Boone's Farm.. LOL

New York Finger Lakes Region has some wonderful wines. Winning awards all over the place....one small problem...

Most are small vinters without a large customer base and by NY law (yeah that's what they call it around here) they cannot ship to individuals only distributors. Duh! Distributors want a guarantee of a minimum number of bottles. Mom & Pop Vinter rarely produce that large quantity.
Too bad, guess we'll just have to drink it all up for ourselves!

Oh, and too bad the Air Force pulled all the beer machines out of the dorm day rooms when they raised the age to 21!

Joined up just as they were starting to do this. It was nice to be able to kick back in the dayroom with a cheap can of beer (.65 cents) and watch cartoons.

DL,

You had beer machines in the barracks?! While we were allowed to have booze of any kind, the only vending machines had snacks or sodas. Once the guy came to fill the machine and left it unlocked. Three of us emptied the thing and left a note inside, "Next time, lock it!". Fortunately, there were no witnesses to the perfect crime.

We were also allowed to have a small refrigerator in the rooms but, instead, my roommates and I got some rubber sealant from the flightline supply room and sealed the big desk drawer and kept it filled with ice. It was a great "camoflagued" cooler. Yankee ingenuity strikes again!
